There have been already 2 Editions of this book, Edition 1 (), Edition 2 (). Both these editions are out of print, but there is still ongoing interest to the subjects addressed in this book. We have decided to make the new Edition (3) instead of just printing additional copies of the Edition 2 for the few reasons. Scattering Theory The simplest model of a scattering experiment is given by solving Schrödinger’s equation for a plane wave impinging on a localized potential. A potential V(r) might represent what a fast electron encounters on striking an atom, or an alpha particle a nucleus.

2 Preface Our aim is to give an introduction to the spectral methods for the Schro¨dinger and Klein-Gordon equations with a potential, and their applications to dispersion time-d. This book discusses as well the function of quantum field theory in predicting S-matrix elements and cross sections that can be compared with experiments. The final chapter deals with strong interaction dynamics as well as introduces Regge poles and dispersion relations.
